@peacebestill023: 🩷 1 Corinthians 6:11 is an especially powerful Made New verse because Paul draws a clear line between who we once were and who we are now because of Jesus. 🩷 “And such were some of you…” 🌸 The word that stands out to me is “were.” 🌸 In the verses before this, Paul lists sinful ways of life. Then he turns to the Corinthian believers and essentially says...That was your past. It does not have to be your identity anymore. 🌸 He doesn't pretend their past never happened. Instead, he points to something greater that has happened since—the saving work of Christ. 🌸 Being Made New doesn't require pretending we never had a past. It means our past no longer gets to define who we are. 🩷 “But ye are washed…” 🌸 Then comes one of the most beautiful words in the verse: 🦋 BUT. 🦋 You were this… but God did something. 🌸 To be washed speaks of cleansing. Sin stains our lives in ways we cannot cleanse ourselves, but through Christ we are made clean. 🌸 We don't have to spend the rest of our lives trying to scrub away yesterday's failures. 🌸 Jesus cleanses what we could never clean ourselves. 🩷 “But ye are sanctified…” 🌸 To be sanctified means to be set apart for God. 🌸 Being Made New isn't only about what God removes from us. It's also about what He sets us apart for. 🌸 We belong to Him now. 🌸 And because we belong to Him, He continues working in us—changing our desires, correcting our attitudes, teaching us obedience, and gradually making our lives reflect Christ. 🌸 Sanctification reminds us that being Made New is both an identity and an ongoing transformation. 🌸 God isn't finished with us yet. 🩷 “But ye are justified…” 🌸 To be justified means that through Christ we are declared righteous before God. 🌸 This doesn't mean we earned righteousness by becoming good enough. 🌸 It means Jesus did for us what we could never do for ourselves. 🦋 Our sins don't get the final word. 🦋 Our worst moment doesn't get the final word. 🦋 Our failures don't get the final word. 🦋 Jesus does. 🩷 “In the name of the Lord Jesus…” 🌸 And once again, the center of being Made New is Jesus. 🌸 Paul doesn't say: 🦋 You fixed yourself. 🦋 You finally became worthy. 🦋 You worked hard enough. 🌸 He says they were washed, sanctified, and justified “in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” 🌸 Transformation begins with what God does, not with our ability to reinvent ourselves. 🩷 This verse gives us such a beautiful before-and-after picture: 🌸 You WERE… 🌸 BUT… 🦋 You are washed. 🦋 You are sanctified. 🦋 You are justified. 🌸 That little word “were” carries so much hope. 🌸 Whatever your past contains, Christ can put it in the past tense. 🌸 Being Made New doesn't mean your story disappears. It means Jesus changes what your story means and where it goes from here. 🦋 Your past can become testimony. 🦋 Your shame can give way to grace. 🦋 Your old identity can give way to who you are in Christ. 🩷 Being Made New means we are no longer defined by what we once were. Through Jesus, we are washed from the old, set apart for God, and justified before Him. 🩷 “And such WERE some of you: BUT…” Sometimes the story of transformation can be found in just two little words: 🌸 Were. 🌸 But. 🩷 I was—but because of Jesus, I am being made new. #PeaceBeStill #ToGodBeTheGlory #MadeNew
