@mybucketlistjourneys: Vermont isn’t the only place to catch beautiful foliage … the Catskills is at peak now and the perfect place if you want to do a fall trip that’s a reasonable driving distance from NYC! I’ve put together the perfect day itinerary for you for your next roadtrip upstate! 🍁 Start the drive early to maximize the day. The drive is 2.5-3 hrs depending on traffic. I started late, but if you get there in the morning, start with breakfast at the popular Phoenicia Diner and try their famous fluffy pancakes. 🍁 Take a ride on the Hunter Mountain Skyride (weekends only) for views of the Catskills, and even Vermont’s Green Mountains on a clear day. Make sure to purchase tickets in advance to save time when you get there (even though I pre-purchased my ticket, the wait time was about an hour, more by the time I got back down) 🍁 Hang around for Oktoberfest at the bottom of Hunter Mountain, held on weekends in late Sept-Oct 🍁 Grab a warm apple cider and donuts (I tried the popular Fred’s Donuts. Cider was tasty, but I’ve had better donuts) 🍁 Walk off the food at the Windham Path, about a 15 mins drive from Hunter. The path is flat and an easy, quiet trail. 🍁 Take in the scenery as you drive down route 23A 🍁 Check out Kaaterskill Falls. If you don’t want to make it a day of hiking, you can view the falls from the viewing deck, just near the Laurel House Rd parking lot. The free parking is very busy and usually full throughout the day. You can pay for parking at lots nearby, but there is a bit of a walk required to the viewing platform. Best time to get into this free lot is near sundown, around 5pm. You have enough time to walk around and catch the falls before it gets dark. 🍁 If you have time in between these activities, walk around Tannersville. You’ll find some cute shops/ restaurants here on Main St. . Of course, there’s so much more to do in the area, so if you want to, make it a weekend trip so you don’t have to cram in everything in a day. #catskills #huntermountain #newyorkstate #fallinnewyork
