@shiva.daddy0: On October 8, 2026, parts of Southeast Asia woke up beneath a thick blanket of haze as forest and peatland fires continued burning across Indonesia. Winds are carrying smoke across national borders, turning once-clear skylines into ghostly silhouettes and exposing millions of people to potentially harmful fine particles. 📊 Air Quality Index (US AQI) — October 8, 2026 🇲🇾 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia — 215 🔴 Very Unhealthy 🇸🇬 Singapore — 155 🔴 Unhealthy 🇵🇭 Manila, Philippines — 107 🟠 Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups 🇹🇭 Hat Yai, Thailand — 106 🟠 Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups 🇻🇳 Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam — 86 🟡 Moderate 🇧🇳 Brunei-Muara, Brunei — 71 🟡 Moderate 🚨 The consequences are already disrupting daily life. Malaysia's Johor state ordered 1,198 schools closed on October 8–9, affecting more than 617,000 students, with lessons moved online or conducted from home. 🌏 Why is this happening? Indonesia's burning forests and carbon-rich peatlands release enormous amounts of smoke and microscopic pollutants known as PM2.5. Seasonal winds can transport these particles hundreds or even thousands of kilometres, crossing seas and borders. The haze is not simply an unpleasant view. Fine particulate pollution can penetrate deep into the lungs, increasing health risks, particularly for children, older adults and people with respiratory conditions. Although Indonesian fires are a major source of the regional haze, local emissions and weather also influence air quality in individual cities. 💔 One country's environmental disaster can become an entire region's public health crisis. The atmosphere doesn't recognize national borders. Neither does pollution. 📢 How bad is the haze where you live? Share your city and AQI in the comments. Source: IQAir, October 8, 2026.
