Similar proportions struggled to hold a book correctly and turn its pages. Parents' perceptions differed sharply from teachers': 88% of parents believed their children were school-ready. (Stay with me, I have a point I’m getting at): We raise kids on iPads, then hand them phones where they watch shootings and trauma unfold in real time. In England, 26% of children entering school weren’t toilet-trained, and 37% weren’t considered school-ready. These stats don’t prove screens caused it, but what happened to parenting? Constant exposure can normalize suffering. Add school shooter drills, gun violence and domestic violence, and we’re failing our kids. Put down the iPads. Pick up books. Check on your neighbors, your kids, and other mothers. We need community again. We need to protect each other before another child becomes a statistic.
