On this occasion, Her Majesty the Queen received His Majesty the King, accompanied by Air Chief Marshal Seksan Kantha, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Air Force; Group Captain Phasin Sombatthawi, Commander of Wing 7; and other senior officials. Thereafter, Their Majesties proceeded to the Wing 7 operations building, where they received a briefing on Her Majesty the Queen’s flight plan. Upon completion of the briefing, His Majesty the King proceeded to the hangar where the royal Gripen aircraft was stationed to observe Her Majesty inspecting the aircraft, a single-seat JAS 39 C Gripen, to ensure that it was in proper condition and ready for flight. Subsequently, Her Majesty the Queen taxied the royal Gripen aircraft to Runway 22 (RWY 22) in preparation for take-off. His Majesty the King then observed the aircraft’s take-off and landing in accordance with the scheduled solo flight training programme. Upon the successful completion of the training flight, Her Majesty the Queen disembarked from the royal Gripen aircraft. His Majesty the King then presented Her Majesty with a bouquet of flowers to congratulate her on the achievement. His Majesty also bestowed upon Her Majesty the Queen the Gripen Order Golden Patch, an esteemed gold-embroidered insignia awarded to those who have completed a flight in the JAS 39 Gripen fighter aircraft.
