Simply put money laundering is an offence committed when money obtained from criminality is made to seemingly look clean. For example, a public officer who has stolen public funds obtaining a loan from the bank and mix it with the one stolen and uses it to build a house so the house can appear to have been built from the loan obtained from a bank and in the process the stolen money is cleaned and mixed with the one legally obtained. The offence of stealing public money is what nie becomes a predicate offence.
