Jirozaemon Attacking the Courtesan Yatsuhashi by Toyokuni III (Utagawa Kunisada), 1850, is a late Edo-period woodblock print depicting a kabuki scene of jealousy and threatened violence. Ichikawa Ebizo V appears as Sano Jirozaemon opposite Iwai Kumesaburo III as the courtesan Yatsuhashi. Having discovered another lover, Jirozaemon grips his sword while Yatsuhashi offers him a letter, her smile suggesting that she does not yet recognize the danger. Her richly patterned robes, his dark clothing, and the wood grain visible in the night sky heighten the scene’s tension. As an actor print, the work connects theatrical storytelling with the visual pleasures of ukiyo-e, preserving both a dramatic encounter and the performers who brought it to life. 『遊女八ツ橋を襲う次郎左衛門』は、三代豊国（歌川国貞）が1850年に制作した、嫉妬と迫りくる暴力を描く江戸時代後期の浮世絵版画です。五代目市川海老蔵が佐野次郎左衛門を、三代目岩井粂三郎が遊女八ツ橋を演じています。八ツ橋に別の恋人がいると知った次郎左衛門が刀を握る一方、八ツ橋は微笑みながら手紙を差し出し、まだ危険を察していない様子を見せています。華やかな文様の衣装と次郎左衛門の暗い着物、夜空に浮かぶ木目が、場面の緊張感を際立たせています。役者絵である本作は、歌舞伎の物語と浮世絵の視覚的な魅力を結びつけ、劇中の切迫した一場面と、それを演じた役者たちの姿を伝えています。
