When Maura said I wouldn’t let my partner or friends speak to me like that, I wish I had taken that on board with my parents. Moved up country and I am so much happier. Still speak to them and see them but I wish I had maybe cut it off back then

3 years of no relationship with my dad and it was the best decision I ever made for my mental wellbeing. He domestically/mentally abused my mum and then mentally abused me and my brother… no one deserves to have parents that show any form of disrespect or abuse 💔

Been away from my narcissistic father for 16yrs. He’s managed to turn my whole family against me. It hurt so much but I’d not want any of them in my life again as not one came to talk to me. They just pushed me aside. The love that he is just self published a book ripping me apart which I’m finding a way to navigate legally. Sooooo many elements to this whole saga and I hate when people say “oh but it’s your mum and dad”. Nope they are welcome to their toxic situation along with my crazy ass sister

I wish there was a service/app that would pair grown adults and “parent like” figures together… maybe people who never had kids, and would have made amazing parents. Id jump at this after having to cut my parents from my life like this too x

Mental abuse from a parent is really difficult. My mum is so mentally abusive too all of my siblings but being the youngest sibling I felt an obligation to have a relationship with her, I’ve been hospitalised twice this past year with pancreatitis and had to have surgery on Monday and each time I would be left in tears in the hospital ward because of the things she says and call me. She called me pathetic, a cow, bitch, too faced all the above whilst I was already in pain. After surgery she said I owed her an apology for saying I didn’t want her to be there. I feel like I still owe her something even though she hasn’t done anything for me. It’s difficult when it’s a parent. I’m so glad I have my dad and my sister l who would never treat family that way. I feel really close with my sister because we almost crave a relationship with our mum but we know it will never happen. When I woke up from surgery I was crying asking for my sister, they rang her and apparently the first thing I said was I wish you was my mum. Mental abuse is really draining. The things she has done to her kids I could never imagine doing to anyone let alone my future children.

Haven’t had any contact with my biological narcissist of father for five years now. It really hurt to do it, but it was the best decision I ever made. He has attempted multiple times to disrespect my wishes and even went as far as pretending he was dead on the same day that I was burying my friend. I never want to see or speak to that man ever again.
