There’s been a lot of criticism of Dele Alli online lately, with people mocking him for streaming on Twitch after reports emerged that he’s considering retirement at 30. But his struggles as a footballer weren’t down to laziness. Childhood trauma took a huge toll on him, including abuse he suffered when he was just 6 years old. 💔 Forget football for a moment. I’m just glad he’s still here and trying to heal. It takes real courage to speak openly about what he went through and try to find his way forward. If that means streaming on Twitch and connecting with football fans, then I’m all for it. 🙏❤ A few years ago, Dele opened up on about the abuse, violence and trauma he suffered before being adopted at the age of 12. 🗣️ Dele Alli: “When I was six, I was molested by my mum’s friend, who was at the house a lot. My mum was an alcoholic. “So that happened at six, and then I was sent to Africa to learn discipline, and then I was sent back. “At seven, I started smoking. At eight, I started selling drugs. An older person told me that they wouldn’t stop a kid on a bike, so I’d ride around with my football, and underneath I’d have the drugs. “At eleven, I was hung off a bridge by a guy from the next estate. A man. “And then, at twelve, I was adopted. From then, it was like I was adopted by an amazing family. Like I said, I couldn’t have asked for better people to do what they’ve done for me. “I mean, if God created people, it was them, you know. They are amazing, and they’ve helped me a lot.” It’s easy to forget just how much Dele has been through, especially when so much of his life has played out in the public eye. Whatever happens with his football career, it’s wonderful to see him smiling, enjoying himself and connecting with people again. ❤️
