RONALD FISCHER FOUND: 21 years after he disappeared during his rape case, a one of Rhode Island's longest-wanted fugitive and convicted sexual assaulter has been captured. In 2003, Ronald Fischer raped Cheryl Gingerich on his boat, “The Lion King,” after meeting her through a personal ad online. This incident wasn’t Fischer’s first assault, as he pled guilty to smashing another woman’s head on a door, dragging her, and cutting off her airway before raping her on his boat in 1994. Gingerich testified against Fischer in 2005, but during the trial he disappeared. Before he vanished, he sent a letter to his lawyers alerting them that he was going to leave the country. When police searched his home, they found “how-to” books on how to change your identity and move money to offshore accounts. Despite his disappearance, Fischer was found guilty of first-degree sexual assault. Rhode Island Most Wanted list previously described Fisher as a "well-connected" man who was a "master yachtsman" and "world traveler." His case was also featured several times on the TV show "America's Most Wanted." For two decades, Fischer went unseen, however everything changed in July 2026. Deputy U.S. Marshals and Task Force Officers assigned to the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force, working alongside FBI Special Agents, FBI intelligence analysts and Rhode Island State Police, pursued newly developed investigative leads regarding Fischer's whereabouts. Police discovered he was living under the name “Richard Graydon” and owned a boat named “The Silver Lining.” On July 16, officers were able to locate Fischer and his boat off the coast of New York and New Jersey. He was arrested without incident. #AmericasMostWanted #TrueCrime #RhodeIsland #USMarshals #FBI
