Cause we still barely have any gen interesting female characters. We don’t have a female Will Graham, a female Dean Winchester, a female Harry Potter or any other female characters like them. Society has gotten so used to seeing men as the default protagonists that male characters r allowed to be complex, flawed, and multifaceted, and audiences of any gender can love them while women r expected to relate to this male characters, so there’s apparently no need to create equally compelling female ones. Meanwhile, female characters r judged by completely different standards, and creators seem to assume that making a character male is the safer choice if they want everyone to like ‘em. It’s like women r expected to make do with male representation because we’ve been conditioned to accept it, while actual female representation is still treated as optional. Idk how to explain it correctly for eng speakers but my point is basically that women just don’t have choice in complex characters like Will Graham since they don’t exist
