Part # 23 || A question I receive regularly is: Should I leave taxi, security, takeaway or similar work and move into HGV driving? My answer is simple. First, assess yourself and your own potential. If you have qualifications, professional skills or a career path where you can progress further, explore that opportunity properly. HGV driving should not automatically replace a career where you have strong potential. But if you are planning to remain long term in taxi, security, takeaway delivery or similar work, then I believe HGV driving is definitely worth considering. Why? • You gain a recognised professional licence • You can progress from Class 2 to Class 1 and specialist work • ADR and tanker opportunities are available • Experience can open doors into transport planning, compliance and management • You can eventually move towards running your own transport business • The industry offers many different types of work I also explain my own journey in this video. My academic background is in Physics and Polymer Engineering and Technology. I knew my own strengths, weaknesses and what type of career I wanted. I chose transport, gained my HGV qualifications and continued developing towards transport management while building my own courier business. That was my decision. Your decision should be based on your own circumstances. HGV driving also has disadvantages. Long hours, nights away, traffic, strict regulations, responsibility, difficult shifts and time away from family are all part of the industry. There is no perfect job. The UK HGV workforce is also ageing, and as more experienced drivers reach retirement age over the coming years, new opportunities may develop for younger drivers entering the industry. So if you have been thinking about HGV driving, do your research, understand the costs and lifestyle, and give yourself a genuine chance. Do not choose trucking because somebody on social media says it is easy money. Choose it because you understand the industry and can see a career path for yourself. A driving licence can get you into the cab. What you build from there depends on you. #truck #drivermuda #trucker #truckdriver #trucktok
