He was never my ex, just a guy friend I’d known for years. I only befriended him because he sat alone every day, and I thought I could brighten his life by being his friend. We had a class together, so I started talking to him and hanging out with him. I always kept things strictly platonic—never hugged him, touched him, got too close, or joked around in ways that could give him the wrong idea. About two years into our friendship, I was at his house and picked something up off the floor while he was in the restroom. I found a box containing everything I’d ever touched or done with him, including a bag of SunChips I’d eaten and thrown away (he must’ve dug it out of the trash), our first movie tickets, and other memories. When I confronted him, he brushed it off, saying he just wanted to keep memories. A few months later, I got a boyfriend, and for the first time in almost three years of friendship, he yelled at me. He said we were supposed to be together forever and cussed me out, so I immediately blocked him because I was scared. The next day, he called me from multiple numbers. I answered and explained that I needed space and that maybe we could still be friends if he gave me some, but his explosive reaction had genuinely creeped me out and frightened me. He couldn’t even leave me alone for a day. It became obsessive: multiple fake accounts, unknown numbers calling me all day, pictures of us being delivered to my house even though I’d never given him my address, and things left on my car’s dashboard while I was at work. His behavior kept getting more concerning. Eventually, he carved my name into his thigh in huge letters, stretching from his upper thigh to his knee, and told me to stop hurting him. He also sent me videos of himself cutting himself through multiple accounts. I started having nightmares about him. My parents found out and involved the police, who went to his house and scared him a bit. I had to change my address, my phone number, and deactivate my socials for it stop. Even started a go fund me a year later after it stopping and he somehow saw it and donated $300. Saw him on insta recently and his legs are covered in scars now.
