#ChinaGermany #ChinaDeutschland
A home with good food is quite a flex. A home with good food makes an ordinary place feel like holy ground. There is something deeply beautiful about a home that takes time to think about dinner, with the people who will sit around the table in mind. Someone remembers how you like your vegetables, what the children enjoy, which meal will bring a little comfort to someone who has had a long day. Arent you drawn to homes that have a day for the market? Where someone walks between the stalls, choosing what the household will eat over the next few days. They pick up a fruit, feel its ripeness, ask after the fresh greens. Somewhere between the potatoes and the tomatoes, they are already thinking about Thursday evening. About who will be home. About what will go well together. About making what they have stretch far enough for everyone. There is a tenderness in being thought of while you are elsewhere. And that same intention follows the food home. Into the washing and chopping, the patient simmering, the tasting of a little broth from a spoon. Then into the setting of the table, the bringing out of plates, the keeping of a portion for the one who will arrive late. Long before anyone sits down, someone has given part of their day to making this small gathering possible. Not expensive meals, just good food. Ordinary meal that stays in your memory for years: the beans cooked just right, the warm chapati beneath a covered plate, the familiar voice asking whether you will have a little more. To be given a seat at such a table is to feel that your presence was considered. That somewhere in the making of this evening, there was room for you. And when the food is finally set before you, your heart begins to say grace before anyone asks you to bow your head. (Make atleast a night in the week, to make food not as an after thought. Set the table, and dine. You deserve it)
