@wrightk0701: Let’s build a GIANT Halloween cauldron out of foam! For the next DIY prop going into Wrights Hallow, I wanted an oversized cauldron, but I also needed it to be lightweight enough to actually move around the yard. So instead of making it solid, I built a hollow frame from foam ribs and filled the spaces between them with Loctite spray foam. About 20 cans of it. 😅 As the spray foam expanded, I lightly compressed and shaped it by hand to help form the body of the cauldron. Once the foam dried completely I went back over the entire body to smooth and round it out. Then I added the handles before covering everything in a protective hard coat. Hard coating is one of the steps I get asked about the most! I have never used anything to hard coat since insulation foam is weatherproof, but this year I’m trying a product specifically for foam coating. Its supposed to create a durable shell over the foam, help protect all that carving and shaping underneath, and give a much better surface to paint. Now it needs to cure overnight before we can make this thing look a LOT less like foam. Next up: PAINT! Looks really cool, but do yourself (and your lungs) a MASSIVE favor and get a respirator! You don’t want to be huffing melted or ground styrofoam!
