@wakawakadoctor: WHAT IF EVERYTHING YOU KNEW ABOUT BRAZIL’S FAVELAS WAS ONLY HALF THE STORY? 😳 I went deep into Rocinha, one of the largest favelas in Brazil, and it was an eye-opening experience! Imagine a community built across steep hills, with thousands of homes, narrow streets, motorcycles navigating tight corners, businesses everywhere and breathtaking views of Rio de Janeiro. 🤯 But here is something interesting! 💡 The word “favela” doesn’t automatically mean a slum or a crime zone. It generally refers to communities that developed through informal urban settlement. Rocinha is more than its reputation. It has a vibrant local economy, hardworking residents, rich culture and a fascinating history. Of course, poverty, inequality and security challenges remain real. But those challenges do not define everyone who lives here. One thing travelling has taught me is that you cannot understand the world by watching the news alone. Sometimes, you have to experience it. 🌍 Brazil continues to surprise me! 🇧🇷❤️ Would you explore Rocinha if you visited Rio? 👀👇 #WakaWakaDoctor #Rocinha #BrazilTravel #RioDeJaneiro #FavelaLife
