Ireland’s new
Ireland’s new "tax-advantaged" investment account is a massive missed mark. While the UK gives citizens a £20,000 completely tax-free ISA allowance (~€24k), we get half that limit (€12,000) And to top it off, they slap a 1% annual tax on everything over €50,000. Not a tax on profits. A tax on the total value every single year, whether the market goes up or down. Between the cash handed over and the compounding wealth destroyed, that "minor" 1% annual skim translates to a real tax rate of over 20% across a 20-year horizon. Instead of simplifying things, it forces retail investors into spreadsheets just to figure out whether to stay inside or outside the cap. We have over €170 billion sitting stagnant in bank accounts getting eaten by inflation and a looming pension crisis. We deserved a real solution - tax-free returns up to a proper limit, the elimination of deemed disposal, and fair capital gains treatment. 👇 What do you think of the new account?
