@rhoades35: I usually check the carbs instead of just focusing on calories. A 400-calorie bowl of pasta can raise my blood sugar more than a 700-calorie steak dinner. I also pay attention to what comes with the carbs—protein, fats, and fiber help slow the rise. I tend to eat the vegetables and protein first, then carbs last. Interestingly, some so-called healthy options like smoothies, granola, sushi rice, and wraps actually have more carbs than they seem. I often snap pictures of my plate to estimate the carbs and see where I’ll likely be in 2 hours. Checking once at 2 hours, I aim for under 180 mg/dl after eating—that’s my usual target. Now I have a better idea of what each meal does to my blood sugar. Save this for your next meal! #type2diabetes #prediabetes #diabetes #bloodsugar #insulinresistance
