Pearland Mayor Quentin Wiltz declined to endorse a boycott of businesses owned by city council members, as the Brazoria County branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People had urged. Wiltz, elected the city’s first Black mayor in May, said he wanted residents and city leaders to resolve their differences through dialogue. The dispute includes his concerns about limits on his authority and his claim that objections he raised at an August council meeting appeared to be missing from its minutes.
