@longislandrealtor631: 🏡 YOUR INSURANCE DEDUCTIBLE IS $2,500… OR IS IT $30,000?! 😳 Imagine buying your dream home on Long Island. You purchase homeowners insurance with a $2,500 standard deductible. Then a hurricane damages your house. You discover your policy has a separate 5% HURRICANE DEDUCTIBLE! Here’s how that could work: 🏠 Dwelling insurance coverage: $600,000 🌪️ Hurricane deductible: 5% 💰 Your deductible: $30,000! That’s potentially $30,000 out of your pocket before insurance pays toward covered hurricane wind damage. Not every policy has this deductible, but it’s something every Long Island homeowner should understand. Before buying a home, ask your insurance agent about hurricane deductibles, windstorm deductibles, and flood coverage. Because the cheapest insurance premium doesn’t always mean the best protection. #LongIslandRealEstate #HomeownersInsurance #HomeBuyingTips #LongIslandHomes #communityjoe

VS21 :
Good information! As an insurance broker, most homeowners just want the cheapest bottom line price, until there is a claim! With that, hurricane deductible triggers on Long Island usually with winds over 74 mph. And, if your policy uses a named storm deductible vs a strict hurricane deductible, it can be triggered at lower winds of 39 mph.
