@crystalhebert4: Maybe the hardest part of losing yourself is realizing you never actually disappeared—you just became someone you needed to be in order to survive. You learned to be quieter when your honesty made people uncomfortable. You learned to say yes when every part of you wanted to say no. You learned to carry other people’s expectations, forgive what hurt you, and call your exhaustion strength. Little by little, you became good at being who everyone else needed. Until one day, you looked in the mirror and wondered, When did I become a stranger to myself? That is where finding yourself begins. Not with becoming someone new. Not with reinventing your life or suddenly discovering some perfect version of who you are. It begins with remembering. Remembering the things that once made you feel alive. The dreams you buried because they seemed impractical. The boundaries you abandoned because you were afraid of being called difficult. The parts of yourself you silenced because being accepted felt safer than being authentic. Finding yourself is the slow, sometimes painful act of taking those pieces back. It is learning to trust your own voice after years of listening to everyone else. And maybe you won’t recognize yourself at first. Maybe returning to yourself will feel like meeting an old friend after years apart—familiar, but changed. Because life does change you. But perhaps that is not the same as losing yourself. Perhaps beneath everything you became to survive, there was always a version of you quietly waiting to come home. And when you finally find them, you may realize something profound: You were never broken. You were never lost. You were only buried beneath everything you thought you had to be. So you begin letting go. The people-pleasing. The pretending. The fear of disappointing everyone. The need to explain your worth. The habit of abandoning yourself just to be loved. And slowly, you stop asking, “Who am I supposed to become?” You start asking, “Who am I when I no longer have to become anything for anyone?” Maybe that is what finding yourself really means. Not building a new person from the ashes of the old one. But standing in the middle of everything you have survived, looking at the person underneath it all, and finally saying: “There you are. I’m sorry it took me so long to come back for you. I’m not leaving you again.” #life #losing #yourself #findingyourself
