As a kid who was actually reading at 3…it’s not as fun as it sounds. The undiagnosed Autism hit hard at 25 😳

Actually, three year olds can start to read. it starts at home with mom. basically, getting them to start reading even a word or two actually can help

Worksheets don’t actually show that children know anything. Worksheets are for subs and lazy teachers.

you are supposed to teach your children to read at home. I was taught to read at home before I entered school. Parents want the teachers to parent.

lol when I was 3 my mom found me "reading" one of my books out loud word for word perfect, flipping pages at the right moments. she would have thought I was actually reading if it wasn't for the fact it was upside down. she just read it to me so often I had it memorized. it would be incredibly easy for a parent on social media to make it look like the kid could actually read. but even if the kid can read, it's because of a lot of work at home. you can't expect to drop your kid off at preschool with no prepwork and expect them to fully grasp the concept within a few weeks

Every child learns at a different rate and age.

this is exactly why they removed a lot of milestones or pushed them back. parents freaking out because they're not hitting some arbitrary deadline that doesn't actually indicate any kind of problem. some kids jump on things super early and sometimes they get to it super late. happens. everyday. for millions of years.

I’ve had a similar situation. And I told the parent she was welcome to go by flashcards and help her child.

Early readers essential teach themselves to read they aren't being sat down and taught like typical 5 year olds. That other child has memorised 40 sight words doesn't mean you can hand them a book and they can independently read it.

True reading comes thru knowing PHONICS, not just memorizing sight words. Parents can really teach phonics at home in a fun way! Phonics are the foundation for reading any and all words.

I send homework home for parents to practice what we are learning which is optional and there are a couple of worksheets in the lesson plan but the other 97% is play we do small group as well but that’s still is only in the morning mom is expecting too much if she wants to practice those things do it at home.

Why don't parents understand that daycare curriculum is playbase learning. They're learning through play.

my 3 year old can read by himself but that's because he was very interested in books when he was 2. Now, my almost 2 year old couldn't care less about sitting and reading so every child is different

is our jobs as parents to find out what kind of preschool they are putting their kids into. if you want 100% academics u probably going to look a little harder and pay more
