@brighteyes847: ❄️ Bannock Man and the Winter GAL -COOKING WITH BRIGHT EYES The winter winds howled through the deep boreal forest, making the pine trees snap and crack like ice. Bannock Man wrapped his woven Métis sash tighter against the freezing blizzard. He knew the old stories told by the Elders: When the wind shrieks and bones rattle in the dark, the flying skeleton known as the Paakuk is riding the storm. Suddenly, a cold shadow drifted down from the grey sky. It was the Paakuk—an emaciated, skeletal spirit with hollow eyes, wandering the frozen woods in search of warmth. The spooky spirit let out a chilling screech! But Bannock Man did not run away. He stood his ground in his beautifully beaded moccasins, leaned on his walking stick, and flashed his signature warm smile. "The winter is long and cold, my friend," Bannock Man said kindly. "But a frozen heart can always be thawed with generosity." He reached into his pack and pulled out a thick, steaming slice of freshly baked berry bannock. The sweet, golden aroma filled the icy air. He offered it to the shivering spirit. In Métis tradition, sharing a feast keeps the winter hardships away. As the Paakuk took the warm offering, the screeching wind softened into a gentle breeze. The skeletal spirit tipped its head in thanks, its clicking bones settling into a peaceful rhythm before it flew back up into the clouds. Bannock Man gave a happy thumbs-up, knowing that kindness can warm even the coldest winter nights.
