@bestofopera.en: Follow @bestofopera for the voices that refuse to be forgotten. 🎵 "Ave Maria" - "Aida Garifullina" Ave Maria, Mater Dei, Hail Mary, Mother of God, You just heard that voice sing the Ave Maria on a gala stage. It's easy to imagine she was always part of that circuit. That's not how it started. Aida Garifullina was born in Kazan, Russia, into a Tatar family; her mother, Layla Garifullina, led a choir. At 18, she left home to study music in Nuremberg, Germany, and then moved to Vienna, where she enrolled in the city's music university. In 2013, she won Operalia, Plácido Domingo's world competition, and joined the cast of the Vienna State Opera. Along the way, she also played soprano Lily Pons in the film "Florence Foster Jenkins," and sang "Angels" in a duet with Robbie Williams at the opening of the 2018 World Cup. Today Aida is an acclaimed soprano, nominated for a Grammy for Best Opera Recording, with a Metropolitan Opera debut in New York as Zerlina in "Don Giovanni," and an ECHO Klassik on her résumé, but also a global pop star. Which surprised you more: the soprano on the gala stage, or the voice beside Robbie Williams at the World Cup opening? 🎼 Work: Ave Maria 🎹 Composer: Franz Schubert 🎤 Performer: Aida Garifullina 🇷🇺 🎬 Recording: Vatican Christmas Concert (Concerto di Natale) Follow for more stories that music keeps. #BestOfOpera #AveMaria #Soprano #Opera
