I’m a former phlebotomist, I had a trans woman patient about 3 years into my job. She was just getting blood work for a physical, but there was no PSA on her order. I didn’t want to overstep, but I also didn’t want her to miss an important lab if she still had her prostate. I asked, she did. I asked if she wanted it checked bc it wasn’t ordered. She said well yes, it’s still in there! You can’t order a PSA on a female patient and she didn’t want her gender changed, she was legally female. I had to change the gender on her demographics, but kept it female on her insurance part. She was so grateful I asked. She can still get prostate cancer or enlarged prostate. I had to get her doctors permission to add on the test. But a very important lab could have been missed had I not noticed she was trans. I hope she continued to get proper care and keep her dignity at future appointments

A LOT of trans men are not interested in bottom surgery. Myself included. My endo asked me if I needed a referral for bottom surgery and I said nope, I'm done. I've had the surgeries I wanted. He was kind of surprised and just said "Oh... ok then." Leave it to a cis man to assume I wanted bigger junk 😂

Nurse here 👋🏾 our education in school regarding trans people is basically nonexistent. It’s support them, be non judgmental and do not allow your bias to affect your care and make sure you know sex at birth to properly care for them. So to say people who “claim to be nurses “ no love we really are not taught anything in our formal education regarding trans anatomy changes. If this is not something you encounter regularly in your area then no you won’t know.
