@fred_duncan: What is elasticity? Elasticity is the ability of a tissue to return toward its original shape after being stretched / deformed. During sprinting / jumping, tendons stretch under load, store elastic energy and return some of that energy to assist movement. Meanwhile, muscles generate force and help regulate joint movement. But muscle stiffness ≠ tendon stiffness Muscle stiffness refers to a muscle’s resistance to lengthening. Tendon stiffness describes how much a tendon resists stretching under force. Heavy lifting and isometrics tend to produce more consistent increases in tendon stiffness, while plyometrics can influence both muscle and tendon stiffness. If you want to see how to program jumps with sprints and lifts, check out my new program - Maximum Output. Eight weeks of my most refined programming, combining sprinting, loaded and unloaded jumps, Olympic lifts, and strength training. This program has produced some of the best improvements in speed, jumping performance, and strength I’ve seen, while carefully managing fatigue and recovery. You can also bundle Maximum Output with Speed Kills, used by over 1,300 coaches and athletes worldwide, to save on both.
