@climate_news_daily_: October 8, 2026 | Acapulco, Mexico 🇲🇽 Heavy rains associated with Tropical Storm Simon caused widespread flooding in Acapulco, Guerrero. Floodwaters inundated streets and major highways, submerging vehicles and disrupting traffic. Affected areas included Costera Miguel Alemán, Cuauhtémoc, and Escénica avenues, Bulevar de las Naciones, the Acapulco–Puerto Marqués road, as well as the Luis Donaldo Colosio and La Fábrica neighborhoods. In some locations, water levels reached up to 40 cm. The downpours also triggered landslides and rockfalls, causing trees, power poles, and telecommunication towers to collapse. Landslides occurred along several stretches of the Acapulco–Zihuatanejo highway, and two utility poles fell in the Pie de la Cuesta area. Due to the flooding and hazardous conditions, public transportation services were temporarily suspended. Authorities also announced the cancellation of school classes for the afternoon of October 8 and the entire day of October 9.
