A court has been showed a video of the moment a university’s student’s “sexually obsessed” stepfather crept into her campus accommodation hidden underneath a blanket before allegedly strangling her. Nathan Owens is accused of murdering Carla Georgescu, 19, after driving more than 100 miles to her student halls, with prosecutors claiming he became jealous after learning she was planning to meet a man she had been involved with online. Jurors at Preston Crown Court were told that the 34-year-old's alleged obsession included him having sex with a life-sized effigy of his stepdaughter which he had clothed in her nightdress. The court was shown footage of Owens parking his car near Ribble Hall, a block of student flats at the University of Lancashire campus in Preston, around 4am on 4 February, and then walking toward the block while hidden beneath a patterned blanket. Owens was later filmed leaving the scene while “shielding” himself with an umbrella and wearing a facemask. His wife, Janina, contacted university security the following day when the teenager did not respond to messages and phone calls on what would have been her 20th birthday. The teenager was later found slumped against a wardrobe with a belt around her neck and it was initially assumed she had hung herself. The jury also saw video of Owens at a restaurant with Ms Georgescu three days before her death. His wife, Ms Georgescu’s mother, had had dinner with her, and Owens had come along later.
