@nofret_egypt_: ‼️Ancient Egypt - Ramesseum‼️ The Ramesseum, mortuary temple of Ramesses II, stands in the Theban Necropolis near Luxor. Osiriad Courtyard Beyond the second pylon lies the Osiriad Courtyard, marked by Osiride pillars—columns showing Ramesses II as Osiris, symbolizing his divine status. Wall reliefs depict scenes from the Battle of Kadesh and fertility festivals for Min, blending military and religious imagery. Though weathered, surviving pillars and carvings still convey the temple’s original splendor. Hypostyle Hall Next on the way to the sanctuary is the Hypostyle Hall, once supported by 48 papyrus-shaped columns. These created a forest-like effect symbolizing the primeval marsh of creation. Taller central columns allowed light through clerestory windows. The ceiling, painted with gold stars on a blue background, evoked the night sky. Reliefs show the king making offerings to gods, emphasizing his dual role as ruler and priest. Astronomical Ceiling Room Beyond this hall lies a room once decorated with an astronomical ceiling. Though largely lost, fragments show depictions of decans and planets such as Jupiter and Mars. This cosmological art reflects Egypt’s advanced astronomical knowledge and its integration into ritual life. The space likely supported both ceremonial and calendrical functions.#Egypt #pyramids #History #mystery #luxor
