how do you handle having rabbits and guinea pigs? I really wanted guinea pigs but after some research I read about bortodella something which can be fatal to piggies, is there any way around it or is that just a risk you have to take as a small animal rescue? I think I'll get a cat instead

This!!! So many people want to better and try to do better but when they are struggling to survive themself there’s only so much that can be done. Health care is a huge one because so many are fighting with the NHS to get the help they need to live a basic life and it is that a fight. If the simple thing we need to live were easier the standards of everything would go up

THIS 🙏 And I am kinda tired of the "they should've just done their research" too. When people don't have access to proper education, they don't know how to research. They don't know what they don't know. They don't know how to tell a reputable source from a shady one. They never learned how to interpret a statistic or what to conclude from a scientific study.

ik a women who owned 8 horses while being in debt and i mean ALOT of debt like over 50k+, the horses were in very poor condition, she kept moving around and borrowed money just to feed her horses and never paying anyone back, nope she didnt want a job ever in her life, the poor horses never were trained, never given proper amount of food, stables were always knee deep in their own poo, but she was very knowledgeable about horse care and standerds but she just couldnt afford them, her own daughters, my family, neighbours, friends told her she needs to rehome them badly, but she was in pure denial, luckly all her horses were sent to a rescue and are now getting proper care, but still to this day she is in denial and is thinks she took great care

Yes. We talk a lot about people getting pets without educating themselves first. You know what you need to educate yourself? Time that you don’t have to spend either earning money or surviving. Do I think people should be spending their last £ on getting an animal? No,absolutely not. Do I think people would be doing that if they weren’t desperate to make their kids happy or to give themselves some kind of mental respite? Also no.
