@cbsnews: Margaret Hamilton, the pioneering software engineer whose work helped make the Apollo 11 moon landing possible, died Sept. 30 at age 90, MIT confirmed Thursday. Hamilton led the team that developed flight software for NASA's Apollo missions and is famously pictured standing beside towering stacks of printed code created by her team. At a time when women faced significant barriers in science and technology, Hamilton broke ground in the male-dominated field of computer programming. Her work helped establish software engineering as a discipline and inspired generations of women to pursue careers in STEM. She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016.
