This is BAR AQUA CAVE in Higashi-Nakano, a small second-floor bar on a quiet local shopping street, 3 minutes on foot from the station. The owner is an aquascaper whose layouts were selected twice at IAPLC, the International Aquatic Plants Layout Contest, in 2022 and 2025. The tanks here were built by the owner, each one a miniature landscape grown from live aquatic plants. The counter sits right in front of two of them, so small, beautiful fish from the Amazon basin swim a few centimeters from your face while you drink. You can sip Peruvian pisco or Brazilian cachaça as you watch. With only seven counter seats, the room stays calm all night, and it is an easy place to wind down after a long day of walking around Tokyo.
