Not being a developer, MCP seems like unneccesary bloat. Why cant the AI agent call the server API directly ?

MCP is basically an API you can add to your app or backend that allows an AI agent and other software to use it. It can be as basic as a HTTP REST interface - just following the rules for MCP. It's pretty simple to add and lots of fun when your agent can pull data and do stuff with your pet project.

Thanks Ivan ❤️does it means that for having an mcp for a particular app (let’s say we talk about Ableton live) means that that app MUST have some API endpoint? How that works if Ableton doesn’t have an API endpoint ? Can MCP server used available scripting language to bridge agent requests to available scripts (I can create audio tracks for example) so it uses scripts ? What about apps that doesn’t have any scripting/API - can one develop MCP for that ? Sounds like the app must have some sort of access to allow that MCP server to do stuff . Can u clarify about apps that has no remote access at all ?

Do AI models often mess up pure API calls or what is the advantage of the mcp translation layer? more token efficient?

Great stuff, but still unclear to me how one company's MCP works with another MCP. e.g. a design system MCP and e.g. Figma MCP or GitHub/VS Code.

How agent make a call? How it works? Because agent is just text.

it went from simple button and API endpoints, to complex MCP tools, and other middlemen calling the same endpoints 🤔

Loving the questions in this comment section — for the non-developers here, the simple version: MCP is basically a universal plug that lets an AI assistant reach into your apps the same way. You don't need to understand the wiring to use the lamp 💡

Also, we need to ensure that the agent has its own identity and access permissions that are fit for purpose, and it's not being run under the user account privileges.

great explamation. so basically frontend disappears. backend stays and is connected to api servers.
