@unitedcajunnavyofficial: 🚨BREAKING: HURRICANE ISAIAS SHIFTING EAST AGAIN AFTER REACHING CATEGORY 3: DANGEROUS LANDFALL POSSIBLE Hurricane Isaias has strengthened into a major Category 3 hurricane, with sustained winds of 120 mph and waves exceeding 20 feet near the center of the storm. These dangerous conditions are expected to persist for hours as the storm approaches the northern Gulf Coast. A Category 3 Landfall Is Possible If Isaias maintains its current intensity, we could be looking at a Category 3 landfall. Even if the storm weakens before reaching shore, winds of around 100 mph or more could occur within approximately 30 miles of the center. Where Could The Storm Make Landfall? The latest National Hurricane Center forecast track, issued at 10 a.m. Friday, October 9, continues to show a threat to the Florida Panhandle and southern Alabama. The track could still shift as Isaias approaches land. The area near Navarre, Florida, east of Pensacola, could be at risk. The highest storm surge is generally expected east of the center, but the exact location and severity will depend on the final track, storm size and local coastline. Coastal Conditions And Preparations Earlier, a couple of surfers were catching some impressive 6- to 8-foot waves as the sets rolled in clean. Now, the waves are becoming more disorganized and dangerous, and we have seen the surfers get out of the water. Conditions can change quickly as this hurricane approaches. Businesses along the coastline are preparing for impact, with many boarding up windows and placing sandbags outside their buildings. One business had a message in its window that really stood out to us: "Next week, the weather will be beautiful. Just breathe." Evacuations And Emergency Preparations Mandatory evacuations have been ordered in vulnerable coastal areas, while airport closures and other disruptions are affecting Northwest Florida. Officials are urging residents to complete preparations while conditions allow. Potential impacts include life-threatening storm surge, damaging winds, flash flooding and possible tornadoes. Heavy rainfall could cause dangerous flooding well inland, too. If you are anywhere inside the forecast cone or shaded impact areas, take this threat seriously. Follow local evacuation orders, keep your phones charged, secure outdoor items and avoid driving through flooded roads. The forecast can still change, and conditions may deteriorate quickly. It is better to be prepared for a stronger impact than to wait until it is too late. Please keep everyone in the path of this storm, along with emergency responders, in your prayers. #HurricaneIsaias #FloridaPanhandle #SevereWeather #HurricaneSeason #UnitedCajunNavy
