I've never understood all the bridal/groom/pre-wedding actives and expenses. bought my maid of honor her dress. a person's wedding shouldn't be another person's debt.

When I was in my 20s my best friend got married and had a HUGE wedding!! I was a single mom and was SO broke!! Her mom knew I couldn’t afford it and she paid for everything for me! She was the sweetest thing ever 🥰

I'm not even having a bachelorette party, I didn't have an engagement party and I have let my brides maids and maid of honor pick their own dress in green. I just have to pre-approve as I want a green rainbow. not too many of the same shades. I'm sorry I'm not putting my wedding party into debt for a wedding they didn't ask for

Just had this conversation with a younger coworker. She couldn’t afford the $2k wedding weekend stuff as MOH and explained this-she was completely UNINVITED from the wedding. She learned the hard way about fair weather friends.

Weddings have definitely gotten out of hand. I was a bridesmaid multiple times. If I could afford to travel in, I came to the events, but no one was offended if I couldn’t make anything other than the wedding. Not to mention the whole bachelorette trip thing. It used to be one night, and we went out then crashed at one of the bridal party’s apartment or a hotel, if we were feeling bougie. I don’t get this weird, over the top wedding culture now.

a former best friend of mine... wanted me in their wedding party... cool. but then they booked their venue... without looking at any events in the surrounding area at the same time... and so they locked down their wedding date for during the same weekend as ComicCon in San Diego... a destination wedding for everyone, cause even though everyone was from the Chicagoland area, one set of parents recently moved to another state. and no that state wasnt california. so literally a destination wedding for everyone. my former friend was mad I couldnt afford that trip, let alone during the price gouging of when they chose their wedding date
