We make excuses, leave out details, downplay the damage, and carefully choose our words so other people won’t see them differently. We become more concerned about protecting their reputation than acknowledging what they put us through. Maybe it’s love, loyalty, embarrassment, or the difficulty of accepting who they really are. But at some point, you have to ask yourself why you’re carrying the burden of keeping their image intact while you’re still trying to recover from their actions.
