@starting.again.at4: Can someone be a brilliant dad for years and then suddenly seem to change when a new woman comes into their life? Or is it just easier to blame the other woman than accept that the man you thought you knew isn’t behaving like the same person anymore? I genuinely don’t know the answer. What I do know is that I’m spending far too much time anticipating an email that may never arrive, from someone whose actions I shouldn’t still be allowing to occupy so much of my headspace. Has anyone else experienced this change in their ex after a new relationship? 💔 #DivorceJourney #CoParenting #StartingOverAt48 #LifeAfterDivorce#homewrecker

Mine never contacted his daughter after 20 years married. She died 6 years ago. I didn’t tell him.

Old Irish saying I heard..Your mother is your mother all your life, your father is your father until his second wife.

I sometimes wonder if some dads seemed like better dads than they actually were, because the mum facilated this by doing the organising/planning etc for kids. So when this stops after a separation/divorce they seem like they not interested or as involved but really the only thing that has changed is mum not doing the family planning. So they love the kids as much as ever but the infrastructure is not there anymore.

My dad had 2 kids before he had an affair with my mum and had me, he completely abandoned his 2 kids when he had me. When I was 15 he met another woman and completely abandoned me when he met her and took on her adult kids as his own! Blows my mind !

If I ever meet a man, he had kids and was a bad dad. I would dump him.

He’s trying to set up the new life. My Ex did this and started letting our teens down, they stopped seeing + speaking to him and then he begged them to give him a chance. They haven’t spoken to him for around seven years now.

But was he a really good Dad or could it have been a reflection of you being a good Mum?

Was he a really good dad though. Or did being with you and you doing virtually everything make it easy for him to look like one. Because the uncomfortable truth is more likely he can’t be bothered to find an alternative than she is somehow preventing him from it. Don’t underestimate how easy it is for many men to just walk away and be relatively unbothered

My ex husband didn’t attend our son’s leaver’s assembly at primary school because he was taking his girlfriend away to London to see Adele in concert and then a month or so later he went on a 10 day holiday with his girlfriend instead of taking the kids an extra few days. He seems to take off more days for going on holiday with his now wife than he does for the kids. He improved after they were engaged & living together. It’s much better now they’re married and they bought their own house together and we do week about now. But yeah, before, I think men very much spend a lot of time trying to make their new girlfriends happy that they slip up on being a good dad.

Whether it’s because of her or not… he’s your kids dad so it’s all his fault no matter what. It may be easier for you to blame the woman but it’s not. He’s your kids dad. It’s his job to put those kids first

It's very easy to blame the new partner, when in reality it's always the x partner/father. Ultimately the choice is always down to him. He makes the final decision.

If he is trying to please her is actually just pleasing himself because he wants to. Let him behave how he wants. The kids will realise eventually if he is being selfish .

Focus on you & children, he is an adult & makes decisions. You can’t make someone be a parent if they can’t be bothered because of someone new on the scene. Down to him, don’t give him headspace. Just do you [Heartwarming] x

Don’t waste your time - silence is golden. I know it’s tough! The less you say about picking him up on the good points of a father that he was when you were together the quicker he will realise and think on how much he was involved with his children but decided to put another woman before them. He will never get that time back he will regret it !

Too much headspace. If he doesn’t want to accommodate his children, it’s his loss. The kids will remember it.

My ex was a brilliant dad, but suddenly stopped calling the children or picking them up, blocked their telephone numbers stopped paying maintenance everything- no one seen or heard from him for 14 years or more now. Can’t blame anyone but him for his choices, but he’ll lose out, can’t blame “Fanny” he’s a grown man - you’ll never know why he’s made the choices he has, or the answers that make this better. You’ve got such a handle on this, more so than you know and realise, you rationalise it all so well xx

The kids will see where his priorities are and recognise that you are doing your best for them. He's ruining it, let him. Let him screw it up for himself and have to be accountable for his actions.

Don’t let him take up anymore of your head space, let him sod off!! Work with what the children want to do, if they want to see him they see him, if they don’t they don’t!
