Booked a property that said it had beach access and the description said step right outside onto beach. The property was a 20 min walk/10 min drive from the beach

This is why when I look at listings with pools, I scroll through to confirm that the actual home has a pool not just pool access. So many hosts advertise their properties as having pools when they’re actually just part of an HOA with a community pool. That makes a difference.

Born and raised in Michigan. Lakes EVERYWHERE! That said, always be aware that "lake access" and "Lakefront" are two totally different things. Many private subdivisions, HOAs or areas may have private lakes for everyone in that development to enjoy. But it might be at the end of the road, accessed from another street, etc. LakeFRONT, on the other hand, means you should be able to roll right out of bed into the lake without firing up the car and you can see the lake from every window in the house. Hotels make the distinction between "ocean VIEW" and "ocean FRONT" to say you may be able to SEE the ocean, but have to walk to it vs walking out the back door directly onto sand and/or water.
