@jeff.does.mortgages: Guess which Canadian med school picks who gets an interview by random draw. 3.0 GPA, 125 on every MCAT section, pass Casper, and your name goes in. Good luck to the 5000 of you waiting for the interview 🤞🍀! #medschool #premed #ontario #mcat #medicalschool
Having good grades does not crisis translate into professional capability…. They are broadening their field to not just those who do best in school, but to include those who have the capacity to do well in school and transfer other skill sets into practice.

makes sense. Using only the highest grades gives a more limited type of people. book smart, not obligated to have a part time job, little extracurricular etc. you need a variety of soft skills and perspectives in a professional.

Do the people with 4.0 gpa’s have top marks because they’re socially awkward and all they do is study? Maybe someone that’s smart enough to have a 3.0 gpa but can also interact with patients will make a better doctor.

I’m a bit confused. Once they’re picked for interviews how much weight if at all does someone’s gpa/casper/volunteering affect their acceptance? Or is everything afterwards just based on interviews? I think this would be great for candidates that might’ve been weak in their first/second years of uni and just need a chance to prove themselves.

I dont think itsna terrible method - if its truly random it can remove any potential biases and people who might be passed over get a shot they wouldn't

All I can say is from these comments some people think that the 4.0 GPA applicants are just book smart. They haven’t seen some of these applications. No! these are high achievers, who are good in everything, speak many languages, Olympic athletes, start their own nonprofit foundations, volunteering for years in mental health, artists and musicians. Many are incredibly well rounded. I do not understand why you would take a less qualified applicant especially when it comes to something so important. I guess everyone who applies for anything shouldn’t be looking at the top achievers. They obviously aren’t as deserving in some people’s eyes. Mediocre is good enough.

We put so many restrictions on our doctors in Canada. does it really matter or is it that they want to weed out the people of color and only have white doctors? is it Canada or is it Ontario?

This is highly unfair for the candidate they are robbing the spot from. It should be only pure merit .
