This is the story of how I set out to save one Doberman from euthanasia at a shelter in Apple Valley, California… and came home with four sisters who had been abandoned in the desert. We rescued them just one day before they were scheduled to be euthanized. They were dirty, starving, and painfully thin. The shelter was overcrowded, and their time was running out. The drive home took almost nine hours. For the next month, we focused on helping them recover. We fed them, gave them baths, treated their kennel cough, and helped some of them learn to trust people. We dealt with their persistent diarrhea, soaked up the sunshine together on warm days, and played with water whenever we could. Slowly, these four little souls began to heal. Today, all four sisters have found their forever homes and are living happy lives. Sometimes, they even get together for playdates or visit each other. But it took me almost three years to finally edit this video and share their story. Just two weeks after rescuing them, I found out that my beloved Doberman had osteosarcoma. Two months later, I lost her. The pain of knowing that I had managed to save four lives but couldn’t save my own girl was something I didn’t know how to live with. I couldn’t bring myself to revisit this footage or tell their story. Because even though these memories are filled with the happiness of knowing we saved four lives, they are also connected to one of the most painful losses of my own life. Sometimes, even the happiest memories can hurt when they’re tied to someone you wish were still here. Peanut, Pecun, Cashew, and Hazelnut were saved thanks to so many wonderful people close to my heart, as well as a rescue organization that refused to turn away from their story. I will always be grateful to everyone who became part of their journey. Four sisters. Four lives saved. Four happy endings. And one piece of my heart that will always ache for the girl I couldn’t save. ❤️ #AdoptDontShop #doberman #rescuedog
