We need better laws to protect drivers of rental vehicles.

No it should be the responsibility of the rental company and or agent who gave the keys

What a waste of time and money. Even though it is a law, it should be common sense to get a ticket to Enterprise.

If I’m using a rental car I’m usually on vacation. So do I have to go back to Florida for court or I’m fucked?

I will say tho. The driver has a claim against the enterprise location (not all locations are corporate) for the costs incurred due to it.

I believe ur wrong on this bc it is not that guys place to keep the registration up to date it is enterprises. the only way he should receive the ticket is if he would be able to take it straight to the company and have them pay for it

Such crap. If you can show proof that you are renting the car then you shouldn’t be able to get a citation. I mean what if you don’t live there? Am I supposed to hang around to go to court?

the police officer should have been like okay this rental receipt matches the car you're good to go what Enterprise know when you get back with the car. problem solved

No, this is not okay. As soon as you realize. It is a rental... You don't write him a ticket. you find a way to penalize the business, not waste his time.

I mean, it is pretty simple to look at the tag of the car to see if it’s out of registration…

enterprise would owe the ticket back to the renter

It is not so simple to go to court. It's a massive inconvenience and often, an untenable expense. Especially with a rental he'll probably have to show up in court states away.

I don't doubt that you are correct, but the situation is bullshit. I'm renting a car in May of next year when we go visit family. Paying the ticket would be the only solution even though it's completely not my fault. The other options to fight it are to pay a lawyer or book another flight, both of which are more expensive than the ticket.

That’s actually crazy. It makes the person who rented the vehicle responsible for something truly out of their hands. Now they have to take time off work and away from their day to show up in court. I don’t think this is right

He has every way of knowing it because guess what there’s a funny little sticker on the back of license plate to tell you exactly when it expires

simply go to court? like you rent a car because you're on your way or on a work trip... like it's not reasonable to be expected to go to court and waste your time.

But then I have to go to court and take time out of my day. Meaning I lose money by not working. So who pays me for my time? Do I have cause to claim a reimbursement from the rental company?

still ends up costing you even though it should not be your problem.

The question is, are the police allow to run the license plate without infraction?

of course the bigger issue is, is the cop going to be a jerk and give him a ticket even though it's obvious he had no way of knowing.
