people just don't want to admit Tywin's entire motivation was not getting laughed at, aka basically the pettiest possible reason for committing endless atrocities

tywin also made a blunder in destroying the Reynes mine

Also the Velaryons lost their wealth because they invested it in things like hightide, spice town & fleets that then got destroyed. As long as Lannisport and Casterly Rock don’t get blown up the Lannisters are fine.

the mines were only dried up in the show btw. Besides that, there are gold mines all over the Westerlands and since they are the wardens of the west, they can tax the shit out of it

let's just admit the lannister go given every single advantage they could, like seemingly infinite troops, no gold or food problems (excluding kings landing).

Lord Rigel Lannister🏴🔻 :
Golds never the argument with Tytos tho its the lack of any backbone or hard power so much so he was losing his house's prestige and soft power having your vassles openly mock you and laugh at you is a death sentence for any house gold was just the mask of his failure

he just reduced their street cred and then Tywin tried to level up but he didn't serve what he was meant to, he just ruined his family and their legacy

🐦🔥Tim Drake🐦🔥 :
the show really really shit on the lannisters when it came to them being bankrupt cause that would also infer tywin has no self control when it comes to loans to the crown, the crown was under the lannisters boot with cash for more than just 3 years, it was them and the iron bank, if the mines went dry and tywin NEVER got the crown to repay him back, hed just be a more evil version of his father. while tywin is a fraud, hes atleast makes sures hes nothing like his father

Yeah; Even setting aside the mines and the stockpile, the interest from the various loans and the major trade city of Lannisport should be more than enough to keep them incredibly wealthy.

That mf Tytos was accidentally Westeros' JP Morgan he forgave 2 debts to his vassals whilst earning back from all the other debts the rest of the realm had to him including the crown from funding the War of the Ninepenny Kings and Aerys' reign

i mean taxes from the west ( the second richest kingdom due to mineral resources )
lannisport and a fleet plus the loans given to lords which bring in a net income

Must have been the biggest whiplash for the lords of the Westerlands to go from the chillest dude as their Lord Paramount, to a man always one misplaced laugh from annhilating your house.

they were slightly less rich, it was more about the public perception of the matter than the real substance, which is what tywins all about

I always interpreted this as Tytos wasn’t squeezing every ounce of gold he could’ve out of Casterly Rock and Tywin did. Like a family owned business vs a ruthless cfo.
