Yeah I think the ones that have a big cleaning fee and then leave a huge list expecting you to do most of the cleaning generally upsets people. Be reasonable and most people are reasonable in return 🤷🏻‍♀️(of course exceptions to every rule - some people just suck- but in general I think it’s true)

Your point about not asking a lot of people is 100% true. We do all of our own cleaning, so we don't charge a cleaning fee. We also have no checkout chores. We explicitly say that the only thing we ask of them is that they do a thorough search for personal belongings before they go. None of our guests ever leave it messy! We have to clean everything anyway, but our guests definitely make it easy.

it would be easier to put smokeless ashtray outside. little tip👍👍they won't smoke inside. people that smoke are going to smoke outside. I pick mine up but they probably just forgot to throw them away.

Airbnb reviews are kind of broken. It seems like if it's not a 5 then it might as well be a 1. Which turns it into more of a pass/fail system.

Just the fact that they didn't stink up the house is reason enough to overlook the buttons. A lot of people spending that kind of money for an extended stay might smoke inside and hope it's not noticed. I'm a smoker and will not book a hotel that doesn't have a balcony. I will step out AND close the door to prevent wafting smoke. Even further, I bring my own semi waterproof disposable ashtrays (Amazon) so butts are contained, dont blow to other balconies, etc. at the end of the stay, I bag the ashtrays and take with me for disposal if there isn't a no smell option on site. I have to be able to tie them up in a bag if I leave them for housekeeping to dispose of and even bag them up outside. I smoke in my own house and car, but NEVER in someone else's unless invited to do so.

My parents raised me with “it doesn’t matter if you pay you’re still a guest clean up” so whenever I stay somewhere even if it’s a hotel and there are staff paid to clean once I leave I’ll always strip the beds and put towels in the shower or bath and just do a clean up I physically cannot bring myself to just leave it untidy
