@peeliesnpetals: #stitch with @Erin Monroe Times are hard, and every dollar matters. I hope we can still give our kids the joy and memories they deserve. Together we can pull together to keep their childhoods safe and full of little moments worth remembering. 🎃🧡 #trickortreat #recession #cheaphalloween
Last year, one of our neighbors bought 50lbs of potatoes. They gave away all of them and the kids loved it!!

Throwback to the first year we were so broke that our decor and costumes were cardboard and got ramen packs as backup because we couldn't afford enough candy and all the kids asked for the ramen.

I wish we could do handmade treats in our neighborhood. Unfortunately 90% of the people in my area are afraid of razors in their candy.

I noticed last year the kids didn’t really enjoy the chocolate candies. Fair I don’t think they taste great anymore. We still have bag of them from last year no one wants. I got this year cookies, frosted animal crackers, etc. it was a LOT cheaper and having to stop my kid right now from busting into them.

story, my kids and I moved to Germany 30 years ago, Halloween wasn't that known to the German population though they were very generous and gave the children a choice of canned goods[Großes LOL][Großes LOL]

we had a farmer who literally lived on the city limits. the year he & his wife realized money was gonna be tight was the year they went to EVERY farm meeting, open house, grand opening, county fair, dealership, etc. if they were freebies to be had they were there. come Halloween they sat everything out and let both kids and adults grab whatever they wanted. they were the most popular house that year.

Ramen and microwave popcorn are relatively cheap options. Apple sauce cups, mac&cheese

I’ve done this…a box of Pennies… one hand grab. The most a little kid gets is like 35-45 centsbut and they get a handful of 1c coins! And they love that.

I shop for Halloween candy at the dollar store. I get hundreds of kids. I spent about $30 and I’m ready! Kids just want candy, they don’t need snickers.

And the candies are so expensive and they’re not even real candy. They even said it on the bag artificial flavor.

Yep! Signed up for a trunk or treat at the local school. Went to Sam’s and bought one big bag of the “cool” candy and three big bags of the tootsie roll mix and 500 stickers off of Amazon. The stickers were like 5 dollars or less. I had to cut them off the rolls but it wasn’t bad.

One of my favorite houses growing up gave out hot chocolate packets. Ate that like a Pixie stick. also pixie sticks rock! my friend has a cauldron of "monsters" they are with scrap fabric throughout the year. The candy vs potato thing. My grandma would make us little gift bags for every holiday I looked forward to that fancy apple and before when it wasn't the best apple there was always the backup orange.

Get stickers. I give the kids choices and sooo many kids choose stickers over candy.
