Muqotil bin Sulaiman berkata: وَهُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فِي سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ اسْتَوَىٰ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ: يَعْنِي اسْتَقَرَّ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ

Muqotil bin Sulaiman berkata: وَهُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فِي سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ اسْتَوَىٰ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ: يَعْنِي اسْتَقَرَّ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ "Dan Dialah yang menciptakan langit dan bumi dan apa yang ada di antara keduanya dalam enam masa, kemudian Dia beristiwa' (bersemayam) di atas 'Arsy: yakni Dia menetap/berada di atas 'Arsy." [Tafsir Muqotil bin Sulaiman. 2/272] Imam Abu al Hasan al Asy'ari berkata: وَاخْتَلَفَتِ الْمُرْجِئَةُ فِي التَّوْحِيدِ: فَقَالَ قَائِلُونَ مِنْهُمْ فِي التَّوْحِيدِ بِقَوْلِ الْمُعْتَزِلَةِ وَسَنَشْرَحُ قَوْلَ الْمُعْتَزِلَةِ إِذَا انْتَهَيْنَا إِلَى شَرْحِ أَقَاوِيلِهِمْ. وَقَالَ قَائِلُونَ مِنْهُمْ بِالتَّشْبِيهِ فَهُمْ ثَلَاثُ فِرَقٍ: فَقَالَتِ الْفِرْقَةُ الْأُولَى مِنْهُمْ وَهُمْ أَصْحَابُ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ جِسْمٌ وَأَنَّ لَهُ جُثَّةً وَأَنَّهُ عَلَى صُورَةِ الْإِنْسَانِ لَحْمٌ وَدَمٌ وَشَعْرٌ وَعَظْمٌ لَهُ جَوَارِحُ وَأَعْضَاءٌ مِنْ يَدٍ وَرِجْلٍ وَرَأْسٍ وَعَيْنَيْنِ مُصْمَتَةٍ وَهُوَ مَعَ هَذَا لَا يُشْبِهُ غَيْرَهُ وَلَا يُشْبِهُهُ "Dan golongan Murji'ah berselisih pendapat dalam masalah tauhid. Maka sebagian dari mereka berkata tentang tauhid dengan pendapat Mu'tazilah — dan kami akan menjelaskan pendapat Mu'tazilah apabila kami sampai pada penjelasan perkataan-perkataan mereka. Dan sebagian dari mereka berkata dengan penyerupaan (tasybih), maka mereka terbagi menjadi tiga kelompok: Kelompok pertama dari mereka, yaitu para pengikut Muqatil bin Sulaiman, mengatakan bahwa Allah adalah jasad (tubuh), bahwa Dia memiliki bentuk fisik, dan bahwa Dia menyerupai bentuk manusia: daging, darah, rambut, dan tulang; Dia memiliki anggota-anggota badan dan organ-organ seperti tangan, kaki, kepala, dan dua mata yang padat — namun bersamaan dengan itu, Dia tidak menyerupai selain-Nya dan tidak ada yang menyerupai-Nya." [Maqalat al Islamiyyin. 1/153] Imam Ibnu Hajar al Asqalani berkata: وَقَالَتِ الْجِسْمِيَّةُ مَعْنَاهُ الِاسْتِقْرَارُ "Dan golongan al-Jismiyyah (yang menyerupakan Allah dengan jasad) berkata: maknanya adalah al-istiqrār (menetap/berada di suatu tempat)." [Fathul Baari. 13/406]
