As someone going through this process myself, I wish people understood what it actually costs not just financially but mentally and emotionally. Imagine paying all your regular bills while constantly paying lawyers, ID fees, credit checks, government fees, and dealing with endless letters from Homeland Security. All while paying taxes, sometimes at a higher rate because of your status. We’re over $4,000 for a single file alone, and we stopped counting everything else because honestly, it became too depressing. And what is all that money for? Not special treatment. Not a free ride. Not to take anything away from anyone else. Just the peace of mind of knowing you can live your life without constantly worrying about your future. To work, pay your taxes, contribute to society, and have the same basic rights and security that so many people take for granted. Behind every immigration case is a real person, a family, a life, and years of uncertainty. People aren’t just paperwork or political talking points. We’re human beings trying to build a life and find a place where we can belong. Please remember that when you talk about immigration. For some of us, this isn’t a political debate.
