Ndife-tate Andowa :
I am reaching out to content creators on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and other social media platforms because I believe the time has come for us to unite our voices and speak out against the injustices children are experiencing across the world.
The Cornell case has reminded us why these issues deserve our attention, but this problem goes far beyond one case or one country. Children everywhere continue to suffer from child marriage, sexual abuse, exploitation, and systems that fail to protect them. In certain parts of the world, these practices are tolerated, defended in the name of tradition, or allowed to continue under laws that do not provide vulnerable children with sufficient protection.
Every child deserves the same fundamental human rights, dignity, freedom, and safety as every other human being. Their rights should never be diminished because of their birthplace, cultural background, or the religion practised within their communities.
We regularly see world leaders, governments, and international organisations speak against racism, discrimination, and human rights abuses in different regions. These are important causes that deserve continued attention. However, protecting children from abuse must receive that same level of urgency. If we can unite to defend human dignity in one part of the world, why should we stay quiet when children are suffering somewhere else?
We are all human, regardless of our faith, nationality, culture, or personal beliefs. No religion, tradition, or cultural custom should ever be used to justify the sexual abuse, exploitation, or forced marriage of a child. Religion must never become a shield from accountability, and respecting cultural differences must never mean ignoring the suffering of innocent children.
I am calling on content creators worldwide to set aside their differences and use their platforms to bring these injustices to the attention of the global community. Imagine the difference we could make if creators from different countries came together for this cause, raised awareness collectively, and called upon governments and the United Nations to take meaningful steps towards change.
