@usghostadventures: Pennhurst State School and Hospital opened in 1908 to care for people with cognitive and physical disabilities. But by the mid-20th century, overcrowding and neglect had become widespread. A 1968 documentary brought conditions inside the institution to national attention, eventually contributing to its closure in 1987.
