HTTD: How’s Simon Doing? UPDATE 2 - Major Hurricane Simon: Well then, Simon has recently become a Category 4 hurricane following a rapid intensification phase that unfolded over the past 36 hours once the storm strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane, amid its wind field still being relatively small. The storm is still intensifying at this time, in which it is expected to strengthen close to Category 5 intensity throughout the next 12 hours, where it will then slam into Mexico’s Jalisco state at that intensity by mid-Sunday tomorrow, bringing horrific hurricane-force conditions to that region, along with rainfall spreading over Southwestern Mexico. As of this moment, by our analysis, Hurricane Simon currently has maximum sustained winds of up to 145mph (~235kph) with an estimated central air pressure of 941mb, moving due north at an approximate speed of 5mph. Simon is currently about 150 miles (~240km) south from the storm’s projected landfall location somewhere near the Colima-Jalisco state lines, in which the NHC expects Simon to continue moving rather slowly towards the region as it continues intensifying closer to Category 5 status, in which, if it does, it would make the storm the record-breaking 4th Category 5 hurricane for the Eastern Pacific Basin. Nonetheless, the NHC does have the storm’s potential peak at 155mph (~250kph), a high-end Category 4 hurricane. Simon is forecast to make landfall in Mexico, assuming the NHC’s forecast plays out, by mid-Sunday (CST), where horrific hurricane-force conditions are expected. Forecasting models appear to continue struggling with the potential location of Simon’s first landfall, still with a considerable amount of models showcasing the storm to move just west of the Jalisco region in order for the storm to make landfall somewhere around the Sinaloa or Nayarit states. Rainfall around the NHC’s forecast cone is expected to be devastating, with the states of Jalisco and Colima potentially receiving between 6 and 18 inches of rainfall (~150 to 450mm) and the state of Nayarit possibly getting upwards of 9 inches (~225mm). Future updates coming soon! #fyp #simon #hurricanesimon #hurricane #update
