This scene means so much to me like. In a real world sense for her but a metaphor for us, accepting Shrek into her life and as her husband has fundamentally changed how people view her. Because she is with an ogre, she will be viewed as an ogre, but she didn’t understand that she no longer had her princess privilege because of who she was married to. She wanted to believe no one would hurt them because cmon guys, it’s Fiona! But they don’t see Fiona, they see a tainted princess with the ogre that ruined her. And that dinner scene is her first experience of what it’s actually like for her now, and how it’s always been for Shrek. She can no longer view it in the lense of her privilege- he is being mistreated because of who he is on a fundamental level. It takes Harold literally spelling it out for her later that his distaste was with the fact that Shrek is an ogre for her to realize like hey, that fight at dinner was actually fucked up. I really love her progression in this movie because I feel like it’s so realistic for someone in her position. You often don’t see your privilege until it stares you right in the eyes while kicking down someone who’s a bit different from you

If you think about how shrek treated frogs… i can see why her dad was prejudiced HE MADE ONE INTO A BALLOON AND GAVE It TO FIONA IN THE FIRST MOVIE 😭😂
